On 1st April 2008, FALKE KGaA in Schmallenberg acquired the rights to the Burlington brand name. FALKE is thus entitled to manufacture and distribute clothing, leather goods and jewellery sporting the Burlington label throughout Europe as well as in other non-European markets. The Burlington name will continue to be managed as a separate brand within the FALKE Group.
Burlington’s image in the high-end international clothing market is fashioned by the Scottish diamond motif, the Argyle check pattern that has been a part of the company logo for so many years. The first sock with the archetypical diamond came out in Germany in the year 1975 and was an instant success.
Since the takeover by the FALKE Group, the Burlington collections have been developed step by step. Burlington’s first collection of leg coverings for ladies and men was launched onto the market for the autumn/winter 2008 season. As of spring/summer 2009, the product range was expanded to encompass men’s knitted tops as well as fine tights for women. In the near future, it is planned to introduce tops for women and children plus a children’s sock/stocking collection.
By acquiring the Burlington brand and taking it in new directions, managing shareholders Franz-Peter and Paul Falke are ensuring the sustained growth of FALKE KGaA and establishing yet another major socks/stockings and tops label to stand alongside the FALKE brand in the national and international premium market.
